Bowen Therapy
Bowen therapy is a very gentle muscular therapy that can effectively treat both muscular ailments and improve overall wellbeing.
Developed by Tom Bowen of Geelong, Victoria and as such is a proud Australian healing therapy.
At the heart of the technique are small rolling moves performed on specific muscles, tendons and ligaments in the body. This sends signals through our body via the fascia, which is the soft connective tissue that joins our bones, muscles, tendons and nerves and which also serves to encase our organs holding them in place.
Because the fascial (connective tissue) system interacts with the musculoskeletal, vascular, nervous and lymphatic systems, Bowen therapy can help with a wide variety of conditions. By focussing on treating the fascia, all these systems are self-regulating and restored by returning the body’s fascia to its original length, strength and function.
With no forceful manipulation these moves relax the body and due to the strategic location not only help muscles realign to their correct position but encourage the body’s own healing capacity by promoting increased blood, oxygen and nervous supply to affected areas.
Bowen’s gentleness makes it suitable and safe for all ages including the physically frail, children and during pregnancy.
Emmett Technique
A unique body therapy created by Ross Emmett used to ease pain and discomfort, increase movement and improve quality of life. The Emmett technique is an understanding of the body’s response to light touch. It has been suggested that the body reacts in a similar way to the workings of a touch screen. Small sensors allow access to the brain via the therapists’ touch. While these points can directly influence muscle action, they may also have a memory and an emotional attachment
